Digital designer – Art Director, User Experience, Design Systems & Brand Development

Welcome to my website!

My name is Nicholas (Nick for short) and I am a designer with 8+ years of professional design experience. Outside of work I really love being outside – camping, fishing, surfing, sailing, skiing, triathlons, you name it. But recently my wife and I purchased a small farm and most of my free time goes toward renovating and landscaping that, which is fun in its own way.

My tech career started with a certificate from community college which got me a job in website tech support. I excelled at bug troubleshooting and the integration of 3rd party applications into our internal systems, climbing to tier 3 support and eventually leading the front end bug team. I then moved into client onboarding, working with new clients to develop brand standards and design systems as Onboarding Art Director. I currently work with our UX team & product owners to do industry research, product design and launch solutions that anticipate client needs in a rapidly changing, competitive industry.

At my core I am a problem solver, I enjoy learning new skills so I can better understand the problem, and figure out how to make it better.

What I do

Organized Design Process

These steps will vary by project, but this is the formula I use, which can be applied to any project to keep it well organized and on-track.

Data Based Solutions

My portfolio of recent clients – solutions that utilize industry data, best practices and design systems, because a beautiful product is nothing if it doesn’t perform.

About Me

I work hard but like to keep things light hearted. Check out my LinkedIn, my resume, or the best way to contact me if you are interested in getting in touch.

My Design Philosophies

Functionality. Design is subjective and trends are constantly changing, so build something that functions well, and it will add longevity.

Simplicity. Your intended audience should be able to use your product with minimal, or no instruction needed.

Communication & Documentation. Talk to everyone involved, users, devs, PO’s, etc., and keep talking. By teaming with everyone throughout the process you can build a better story around your product and come up with a solution that works for all parties.
